Friends Beyond - Barnes, Moule and Hardy
Mark Chutter
This FREE online talk, filmed in April 2022, evaluates and re-examines the significance of William Barnes and Horace Moule as key mentors to Thomas Hardy including the classical and literary, philosophical, religious and socio-political influences that they had on the Wessex writer and poet.
Mark Damon Chutter is the Academic Director of the Thomas Hardy Society. He has been teaching English for 25 years. Mark has been shortlisted for both the TES ( Times Educational Supplement) ‘Most Innovative Teacher of the Year’ and ‘ Teacher of the Year’. He has a passion for everything related to Fordington including the Moule family as his Grandmother lived in the Old Vicarage in Salisbury Field from 1942-1971.
The paper is dedicated to the late Warren Davis of Came Rectory - an inspiration to us all.
